United States goalkeeper Brad Guzan claimed his team will not kid themselves as they target improvement ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals.
Panama dominated USA on Monday in both teams final group game of the Gold Cup, but Guzan s side managed to hold on for a 1-1 draw just three days after they stole a 1-0 victory from CONCACAF minnows Haiti.
The result in Kansas City could easily have been different, with Panama finishing their match against USA with 11 shots to five, as Guzan made six saves.
The draw saw USA top Group A with seven points, with Haiti securing second position and a berth in the last-eight.
But while midfielder and stand-in captain Michael Bradley insisted these games have never been easy , Guzan was more critical of the def…
Chelsea striker Loic Remy is growing increasingly frustrated with lack of first-team chances at Stamford Bridge and looks set to make a move away from Blues in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
According to French publication , the 29-year-old forward is heading towards Crystal Palace as the Eagles missed out on Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.
Lyon are also believed to be in the running for Chelsea’s forgotten man, but Remy is believed to be keen to remain in the Premier League.
Former Marseille and QPR forward has fallen behind in the pecking order with the arrival of Michy Batshuayi and does not feature in Antonio Conte’s plans for the new season.
Batshuayi and Diego Costa were both involved in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over West Ham…
Paris Saint-Germain have released Rafinha to allow the midfielder to join Qatar side Al Arabi SC.
The 29-year-old fell out of favour at the Parc des Princes, featuring just five times in all competitions last season before joining Real Sociedad on loan in December.
Rafinha enjoyed more game time for La Real as he appeared 17 times in LaLiga, scoring once to help Sociedad finish sixth.
But the two-capped Brazil international moved further down the midfield pecking order on his return to the French capital, with Christophe Galtier signing Renato Sanches, Vitinha, Carlos Soler and Fabian Ruiz.
With the World Cup coming later in the year in Qatar, Rafinha has moved to Doha to join Al Arabi on a two-year contract as he ended a two-year stay with the Ligue 1 c…
Thomas Tuchel declared Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is hungry to prove a point as he weighed up whether to throw Chelsea s new striker in from the start at Dinamo Zagreb.
Aubameyang, who only left Arsenal for Barcelona in January, became one of the final major signings of a busy transfer window at Stamford Bridge, and has made the trip to Croatia for the Blues Champions League opener.
The striker was unable to feature in a 2-1 Premier League win over West Ham on Saturday after suffering a broken jaw when his home was invaded by burglars ahead of his transfer.
But Aubameyang could be set to make his debut while donning a protective mask on Tuesday, and Tuchel believes the 33-year-old is desperate to hit the ground running.
Asked whether Aubameyang was the ty…
Inter are lining up a summer bid for Benfica forward Rodrigo, Portuguese newspaper .
The Neroazzurri are desperately short of options in attack and are eager to add at least one more forward to their ranks in the summer transfer window.
According to Record, Benfica starlet Rodrigo Moreno is one of the first names on their hit-list.
Inter have been keeping close tabs on the 22-year-old for a while now and they are finally ready to step up their interest. The Serie A giants are prepared to splash around €10 million on the highly rated attacker.
Rodrigo came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, but was sold to Benfica for €6 million in the summer of 2010.
He has since went on to score 15 goals in 37 Primeira Liga appearances for the Eagles. R…
Arsenal s bid to cling onto their status as Champions League regulars suffered another serious blow as they were held 0-0 by Fulham in Saturday s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsene Wenger s team missed the chance to heap pressure on fourth-placed Aston Villa, who play on Sunday, as they recorded a fourth consecutive scoreless draw for the first time since October 1993, when George Graham was in charge.
The notoriously miserly Graham would doubtless have approved of Arsenal s class of 2009 keeping six consecutive clean sheets, but that is of little consolation to Wenger, whose attack continues to malfunction dreadfully.
They were in control for most of this London derby but, for all Arsenal s possession, Fulham hardly had to endure a siege in th…
Swansea City manager Garry Monk said Jonjo Shelvey deserved his call-up to the England squad after making a bright start to the Premier League season.
Shelvey was among the 22 players selected by Roy Hodgson on Sunday for next month s Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland.
The 23-year-old, who earned his one and only cap against San Marino in 2013, has hit the ground running this term after meeting with Monk at the end of 2014-15 to address his discipline and application.
Speaking to reporters following Sunday s 2-1 win at home to Manchester United, Monk lauded Shelvey for his efforts.
It s time to grow up and he s done that, Monk said.
I had a good relationship with Jonjo and worked closely with him and he s worked very hard.<…
The head of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) is keen for manager Gordon Strachan to stay on in the role regardless of whether qualification for Euro 2016 is secured.
With two games remaining, Strachan s men sit fourth in Group D, four points behind third-placed Republic of Ireland, who face Germany and Poland in their final fixtures.
Strachan has been in charge since January 2013 and SFA president Alan McRae wants the former Celtic boss to remain and bring long-term stability to the Scotland set-up.
I m going to stick my neck out and say I don t think Gordon will want to leave the job, McRae told The Daily Express.
He loves the job. It s the right job for him. He hasn t got the day-to-day issues he d have with other jobs.
Even tho…
Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio plans to sort out his club future after Spain s World Cup campaign, amid reported interest from Liverpool.
Asensio started the 2017-18 season strongly, scoring in both legs of the Supercopa de Espana triumph over Barcelona, but struggled to retain a place in Zinedine Zidane s star-studded side.
The 22-year-old signed a six-year contract, which reportedly includes a €700million buyout clause, at the Santiago Bernabeu last September, but has been linked with an off-season switch to Anfield.
Asensio came off the bench in Spain s World Cup win over Iran and the 2-2 draw against Morocco on Monday a result that sent them through to the last 16 as Group B winners and says the national team is his sole focus for the time being.
Manchester City have distanced themselves from reports that they are to move for Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk, .
The Netherlands international has been one of the stand-out players in his position in the Premier League this year, attracting attention from many of the Saints’ rivals.
However, Pep Guardiola has insisted that he is not interested in securing the defenders services and is sure that the South Coast club would not sell to another team in England’s top flight either way.
Van Dijk moved to St. Mary’s Stadium from Celtic in the summer of 2015 and has since racked up sixty-three appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals the last of which came in a 1-1 draw with Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the Europa League earlier this month.
